The Hampton girls’ basketball team finished strong on Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs pulled away for a 58-42 victory over Sullivan North in the opening game of the District 1-A tournament.
Hampton advances to Saturday’s semifinals against North Greene at 3 p.m., with the win and also clinched a Region 1-A berth.
After a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter, HHS held a 16-14 lead at the end of the quarter. Madi McClain hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter while Hazen Brumitt controlled the inside as the Lady Bulldogs were able to get a little breathing room in the quarter.
Hampton led 30-20 at the half.
Sullivan North, however, used a strong offensive attack in the third quarter with three 3-pointers to trim the Hampton lead. HHS held a slim 3-point lead going to the final eight minutes.
Hampton, however, regained control in the final quarter with a 10-1 run and never looked back in the closing minutes.
Hazen Brumitt had 13 points to pace the way for Hampton, while McClain added 12 points. Hannah Collins finished with eight points. Destini Milhorn had seven points.
Lilly Crawford led North with 11 points.
