The Lady Bulldogs took care of business on Thursday night.

Hampton pulled away in the second half to take a 64-32 victory over University High in the quarterfinals of the District 1-A tournament at Happy Valley High School.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs advance to take on top-seeded North Greene in the Friday semifinals. That game is set to tip-off at 6p.

Hampton also clinched a berth in the Region 1-A tournament.

The teams traded buckets in the opening minutes as Macy Henry hit early shots for Hampton. After the Lady Bucs took a 6-4 lead, Breanna Davis kick-started a 10-0 Hampton run that was capped by a Taylor Berry basket to take a 14-6 lead into the second quarter.

UH, however, didn’t go quietly as the Lady Bucs trimmed the lead back to six points midway through the quarter. Hampton’s Linsey Jenkins scored four quick points, and Berry added a basket to send HHS to the half with a 22-13 lead.

Hampton took full control in the third quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs scored often and early to start the second half as Henry, Jenkins, and Davis added early points. That propelled the Lady Bulldogs on a 13-2 run.

UH countered with a 6-2 run, but Jenkins and the Lady Bulldogs scored 11 of the final 13 points in the third quarter to take a 48-23 lead to the final quarter.

Hampton continued to have the momentum in the final quarter to secure the win.

Jenkins finished with 20 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, while Henry added 17 points to the tally. Berry added eight points.

UH was led by Delaney Trosin’s 10 points and Catie Leonard’s seven points.
