Elizabethton took care of business on Tuesday.
The Lady Cyclones outlasted Volunteer 5-3 in the Region 1-3A semifinals on the road. EHS advanced to Wednesday’s Region 1-3A at David Crockett against the Lady Pioneers, and also secured a spot in the Class 3A Sectionals.
After the first three innings went scoreless, the Lady Cyclones struck in the fourth.
After Sadie Williams opened the inning with a walk, Lacey Gobble hit a home run over the left field fence to give EHS a 2-0 lead. Volunteer was able to get one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth, Adrian Heading got on base with a two-out single, and Williams hit a home run to plate the two runs. The Lady Falcons trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the fifth.
Elizabethton struck again in the seventh as Adrian Heading launched a leadoff home run to extend the lead, and the Lady Cyclones secured the win by retiring the side in order.
Gobble and Williams had two hits and two RBI apiece, while Heading had two hits and an RBI.
In the pitching circle, Gobble allowed just one earned run on three hits.
