The Cloudland basketball programs came up short on the final day of the Hall’s Sgt. York Southeastern Christmas Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady ‘Landers fell 45-32 to host York Institute in the championship game, while the ‘Landers fell 57-49 to Red Bird Christian in a consolation game.
In the girls’ championship game, Cloudland was unable to recover from an early deficit.
The Lady ‘Landers saw York take a 14-6 lead after eight minutes of play and a 25-12 lead at the half. Cloudland continued to battle in the second half, but was unable to make a run into the York lead.
Kenzie Birchfield led CHS with six points, while Kaylen Fields and Gracie Freeman had five points apiece. Jasmine Birchfield had four points.
In the boys’ game, the ‘Landers had to battle back.
Red Bird Christian jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter, but Cloudland stopped the run with a run of their own in the second. The ‘Landers were unable to cut into the lead before half as they trailed 29-19 at the half.
CHS used a hard-fought effort to keep pace with RBC in the second half, but they were unable to get back in front.
Hunter Shell had a team-high 15 points, while Elijah Blair had 13 points. Bentley Gilbert added eight points to the Cloudland cause.
