Cloudland dropped a heartbreaker on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady ‘Landers came up short in a 1-0 decision to North Greene in the District 1-A Softball tournament at Happy Valley.
With the loss, Cloudland’s season comes to a close, while North Greene advanced to Thursday’s championship game against Unaka.
It was a defensive struggle from the start as Karah Fields and the Lady ‘Lander defense set the tone early.
Cloudland was able to get base runners on – including loading the bases in the fifth – but was able to bring the runs across the plate.
North Greene used a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to have a runner tag from third and was ruled safe from the tag to give NG the 1-0 lead.
Cloudland was unable to answer in the final two at-bats despite a hard-fought battle.
Saharra McKinney, Ella Benfield and Karah Fields each had a hit for Cloudland.
Fields recorded 10 strikeouts in the pitching circle and allowed just three hits.
