The Lady ‘Landers evened the score on Tuesday night.
Cloudland picked up a hard-fought 55-51 victory at North Greene on Tuesday night to move into a tie in the District 1-A race with the Lady Huskies. In the boys’ game, Cloudland was unable to complete a late rally in a 68-63 decision.
In the girls’ game, it was a tight battle from the opening tip.
After the Lady Huskies took a 17-13 advantage after eight minutes of play, Jasmine Birchfield provided a spark for Cloudland as CHS took a 31-28 lead into the half.
Neither team was able to get much separation in the second half as CHS maintained a slim one-point lead heading to the fourth. Mandy Benfield scored eight points in the final eight minutes as Cloudland was able to hold on for the key district win.
Benfield finished with 17 points, while Gracie Freeman and Birchfield had 12 points apiece.
In the boys’ game, Cloudland had to battle back from an early deficit.
The homestanding Huskies took a 17-9 first quarter lead and extended it to 12 points at the break. The ‘Landers were limited in the third quarter as they trailed 49-31.
Cloudland, however, wasn’t going down without a fight.
Hayden Shell and Hunter Shell helped spark a CHS rally that saw the ‘Landers rapidly close in on the Huskie lead. However, they were unable to get back in front.
Hu. Shell finished with 19 points to lead the way, while Hayden Shell scored 16 points. Conner Birchfield and Elijah Blair had 12 points apiece.
