Lady ‘Landers Fall Short In Region 1-A Title Game



Cloudland was unable to overcome a slow start.

The Lady ‘Landers came up short in a 37-26 decision to North Greene in the Region 1-A Girls Championship game at Daniel Boone on Wednesday night.

Cloudland will travel to Coalfield on Saturday night for their sectional round.

The Lady ‘Landers were unable to get anything going in the opening minutes as NG was able to open the game on a 9-0 run.

Karah Fields put Cloudland on the board with a jumper and Saharra McKinney added a free throw, but North Greene held a 16-3 lead after a quarter of play.

Fields opened the second quarter with a bucket, but Cloudland was unable to get back on the board until

McKinney hit a free throw in the final minute. The Lady ‘Lander defense limited North Greene in the quarter as the Lady Huskies took a 21-6 halftime lead.

Cloudland was able to get things going in the third.

After McKinney scored four early points for Cloudland, Ryan Turbyfill hit a 3-pointer and added a free throw, while Ella Benfield added a jumper.

The Lady Huskies, however, held a 30-16 advantage at the break.

Cloudland continued to fight in the fourth as Benfield and McKinney hit points as CHS tried to rally. However, North Greene was able to hold on for the win.

McKinney had 10 points to lead the way for Cloudland, while Benfield scored eight points.

Turbyfill and Fields had four points apiece.

Brooklyn Anderson scored 12 points to lead North Greene, while Shelby Davenport had 11 points.

Benfield, McKinney, Turbyfill and Fields each were named to the All-Tournament team.
