The Cloudland Lady ‘Landers picked up a key District 1-A win on Thursday night.

Cloudland outlasted North Greene for a 43-37 victory inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium. The win moves the two teams into a tie for first place in the district race.

In the boys’ game, the Huskies jumped out early en route to an 87-49 decision over the ‘Landers.

In the girls’ game, it was a back-and-forth battle from the onset.

Neither team was able to get much separation from the other as the teams were tied at 11-11 after a quarter of play.

Cloudland edged ahead before half before NG cut the lead to one point at the break.

Points were hard to come by for both squads in the third quarter as NG was able to even the score as the game went to the final quarter.

Cloudland, however, started to take control in the fourth.

Gracie Freeman scored nine points in the quarter, while Mandy Benfield hit a key shot to stop an NG run as CHS held off the Lady Huskies in the final minutes.

Freeman finished with 21 points, while Benfield had eight points. Heaven Caraway and Karah Fields had five and four points, respectively.

In the boys’ game, the Huskies came out on fire.

North Greene jumped out to a 26-13 lead in the first eight minutes. The ‘Landers battled back in the second but was unable to trim into the NG lead before the break.

Cloudland continued to fight but was unable to keep up with a torrid offensive attack in the second half.

Dylan Shell had 16 points to lead the CHS attack, while Victor Hicks and Elijah Blair had eight points apiece.
