Cloudland delivered a knockout punch on Monday night.
The Lady ‘Landers used a 14-0 third-quarter run to power them to a 58-46 victory over Cosby in the Region 1-A Semifinals at Cosby.
With the win, Cloudland punched a ticket to Wednesday’s Championship game at North Greene as well as Saturday’s substate round.
The Lady ‘Landers opened the game on a roll.
Cloudland scored the game’s first eight points before Cosby was able to get on the board midway through the quarter.
The Lady Eagles were able to trim the lead at the buzzer, but Cloudland maintained a 12-9 lead at the end of the first.
Gracie Freeman opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 3-pointer. Jasmine Birchfield helped answer Cosby shots as CHS held a 23-16 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Cosby opened the half with a quick run as the Lady Eagles tied the game three minutes into the half.
Cloudland, however, had a strong statement.
Heaven Caraway broke the 25-25 tie with a 3-pointer, and Mandy Benfield added another 3-pointer to push the CHS lead back to six points. Freeman and Caraway added a pair of old-fashioned 3-point plays, while a Caraway bucket pushed the run and lead to 14 points with just over two minutes to play in the third.
Cosby snapped the run with a 3-pointer, but Cloudland held onto a 41-30 advantage going to the fourth.
Birchfield opened the scoring in the fourth quarter. It was the first of nine points in the frame as Cloudland pushed the lead to 19 points.
The Lady Eagles were able to cut the lead to 10 points, but the Lady ‘Landers was able to keep Cosby at bay to set off a celebration amongst the Cloudland faithful who made the trip.
Birchfield had 21 points to lead Cloudland, while Benfield had 14 points. Caraway added nine points.
Freeman tossed in six points.
