The Cloudland girls’ basketball program found the cruise control on Tuesday night.
The Lady ‘Landers scored the first 13 points and never looked back en route to a 52-18 victory over University High. In the boys’ game, Cloudland was unable to battle back from a fourth-quarter UH run in a 58-42 defeat.
For the Lady ‘Landers, it was smooth sailing as CHS took a 15-2 lead into the second quarter. Cloudland, who held the Lady Bucs without a field goal for the first 12 minutes of the game, extended the lead to 27-7 at the break. From there, Cloudland was never threatened.
Stacia Wilson had 18 points to lead Cloudland, while Trinity Vines tallied 17 points. Jasmine Birchfield had six points.
In the boys’ game, the teams took shots at each other as UH held a 12-11 lead after the first quarter. After UH extended the lead in the second quarter, the ‘Landers made a late run to pull back within two points.
Cloudland jumped into the lead to open the second half. However, UH countered and pushed the lead to five points off a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the third.
The ‘Landers were unable to answer a Buc run to open the fourth as UH took the win.
Robert Leeper had 13 points, and Josh Blair had 11 points.
