It was a split night for the Cloudland basketball programs.

The Lady ‘Landers pulled away to a 59-26 win over University High in District 1-A action, while the ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with a hot-shooting UH team in a 76-53 decision.

In the girls’ game, Cloudland took control in the second quarter and never looked back.

After holding a 10-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter, Mandy Benfield and Stacia Wilson had six points apiece in the second quarter to spark CHS to a 24-7 quarter.

There was never any doubt in the second half as CHS doubled up UH in the third and cruised through the fourth quarter.

Wilson led Cloudland with 15 points. Trinity Vines had 11 points, while Jasmine Birchfield and Benfield had eight points apiece.

For the Cloudland boys, a consistent Bucs squad slowly pulled away.

The ‘Landers, who were without Robert Leeper who was out with an illness, stayed within striking distance during the first quarter as UH held a 20-16 lead after a quarter of play.

Josh Blair hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter, but a Buc run allowed them to take a 42-30 advantage at the half.

CHS continued to battle in the second half but was unable to dig into the UH lead.

Jordan Coffey had 16 points to lead Cloudland while Blair finished with 14 points. Conner Birchfield added nine points.
