Cloudland was unable to overcome a pair of North Greene quick starts on Friday night.
The Lady ‘Landers fell 35-24 to the Lady Huskies after a second-half rally fell short while the ‘Landers dropped a 52-30 decision to North Greene.
With the win, both the North Greene girls and boys claimed their respective regular season District 1-A championship.
In the girls’ game, Cloudland had to overcome an early deficit.
North Greene opened the game on a 10-1 run with Abrielle Jones hitting a free throw to account for the lone CHS point. Makinna Shell hit a 3-pointer in the final minute of the first quarter as Cloudland trailed 11-4 after a quarter of play.
Shell added a jumper in the second quarter, but North Greene outscored Cloudland 10-2 to extend the lead to 21-16 at the half.
Shell sparked a Lady ‘Lander run to open the second half with back-to-back shots while Reagan Turbyfill hit a 3-pointer. After a pair of North Greene free throws, Mckenzie Street hit jumper as Cloudland closed the gap to 23-16 after three complete quarters.
Street added a trey early in the fourth quarter for the blue and gold. However, North Greene was able to extend the lead back out and held Cloudland off to secure the win in the final minutes.
Shell finished with 10 points to lead CHS, while Street added seven points. Reagan Blair and Turbyfill each had three points.
Loren Blevins led North Greene with 10 points. Josie Graham and Hannah Miller scored nine points apiece.
In the boys’ game, the ‘Landers saw North Greene open the game quickly.
The Huskies scored the first 12 points of the night before Uriah Jarrett and Nick Caraway hit back-to-back shots for the ‘Landers. NG led 15-4 after a quarter of play.
Jarrett opened the second with a bucket, but Lance Carrico sparked a 13-0 North Greene run to push the lead out. Cloudland fought back late in the quarter to trim the deficit to 33-15 at the half.
In the second half, the ‘Landers continued to battle but were unable to rally past the Huskies despite a hard-fought effort.
Caraway led Cloudland with 19 points. Jarrett had seven points.
Carrico led North Greene with 20 points, while Lawson Davenport added eight points.
