Lady ‘Landers, Warriors Pull Away For Wins

Cloudland and Happy Valley split a pair of varsity games on Tuesday night in Roan Mountain.

The Warriors pulled away to take a 66-40 win over Cloudland, while the Lady ‘Landers used a strong second half to take a 48-30 win.

In the boys’ game, Happy Valley jumped out early.

Sparked by seven first-quarter points from Dylan Farr, HV took a 16-8 lead into the second quarter. The Warriors continued to have momentum as they outscored CHS 12-5 in the second stanza to push the lead to 15 points at the half.

Cloudland continued to battle in the second half as Dylan McClellan scored 14 second-half points for CHS, but the Warriors were able to keep CHS at bay for the win.

Furr led HV with 20 points, while Darian Jackson and Ron Paul Parker had 12 points apiece.

McClellan led Cloudland with 18 points. Kingston Cole added six points for the Blue and Gold.

In the girls’ game, it was a battle in the opening minutes.

Isabella Christman and Regan Blair provided an early spark as CHS held a 12-7 lead after a quarter of play. Ashlynn Sommers helped HV stay within striking distance in the second quarter as Cloudland led 18-12 at the half.

The Lady ‘Landers started to pull away in the third.

MaKinna Shell had six points as CHS pushed the lead to 29-19 after three and stayed in control during the final quarter.

Ryan Turbyfill had 13 points to lead Cloudland, while Christman finished with nine points. Shell added seven points, while Blair and Makenzie Street scored six points in the win.

Sommers had nine points for HV. Marcida Moore and Kayla Parker scored eight and seven points, respectively, for the Lady Warriors.
