The Lady Rangers took control of the District 1-A Consolation game in the final five minutes.

Unaka outscored Hampton 10-4 in the final five minutes to take a 55-45 victory over the Lady Bulldogs on Monday at Daniel Boone High School.

Both teams qualified for the Region 1-A tournament as Unaka will travel to the loser of the Cosby/Greenback game and Hampton will travel to the loser.

The opening half was a battle.

The teams traded shots over the first eight minutes as the first quarter ended in a 9-9 stalemate. Unaka opened the second quarter with quick points from Lyndie Ramsey and Jada Whitehead, but the Lady Bulldogs answered as Bridgette Heaton and Hazen Brummit answered to even things back up.

After Macy Ensor converted an old-fashioned 3-point play to start an 8-2 Lady Ranger run, Hampton saw Madi McClain knock down a deep 3-pointer to pull HHS back within striking distance. Unaka, however, ended the half on a 7-3 run to take a 27-23 advantage into the half.

In the third quarter, Ramsey countered a Hampton garage as the Lady Bulldogs closed the gap to one point midway through the third. The Lady Rangers got settled and reeled off 11 of the next 13 points to take a 43-34 advantage into the final quarter.

Heaton and the Lady Bulldogs made a quick run to pull within four points, but Unaka countered with a run of their own to secure the win.

Ramsey led Unaka with 21 points, while Ensor had 12 points. Mackenzie Depew and Mailey Guy had seven and six points, respectively.

Brummit led Hampton with 13 points. Linsey Jenkins had nine points, while Hannah Collins had six points.
