Happy Valley wasn’t ready for the season to be over on Monday night.
The Lady Warriors used a 14-1 run to take a 41-27 victory over West Greene in the District 1-2A play-in game on Monday night in Unicoi County. With the win, HV advanced to Thursday’s semifinals against Chuckey-Doak and also qualified for the Region 1-2A tournament.
Points were hard to come by in the opening eight minutes as HV held a slim 7-6 lead after the first quarter.
Alex Moore provided a spark for the Lady Warrior offense in the second quarter with six points, and Happy Valley maintained an 18-15 advantage at the half.
The teams continued to trade shots in the second half. HV took a 35-21 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, West Greene closed the gap to 27-26 with just under five minutes to play. Josephine Zeoli, however, answered with a 3-pointer and the Lady Warriors ended the game on a 14-1 run to secure the win.
Cayden Anderson scored 17 points for Happy Valley. Shaniece Gardner added nine points. Moore and Zeoli had eight points apiece.
