Lady Warriors Fall In District 1-3A Heartbreaker

Happy Valley dropped a heartbreaker on Monday evening.

The Lady Warriors rallied to take a lead in the top of the seventh but West Greene was able to record a walk-off 19-18 win in the opening round of the District 1-3A tournament.

With the loss, Happy Valley sees their season come to a close.

It was a wild game from the opening at-bat.

The Lady Warriors jumped out early with eight runs in the top of the first, but WG was able to get five of the runs back in the home side of the first.

HV pushed the lead out as Keira Reece and Aleah Grindstaff pushed runs across to give HV an 11-5 lead.

However, the Lady Buffaloes countered to tie things up at 11-11 after two complete innings.

After the Lady Warriors were unable to get anything going in the third, West Greene plated four runs in the third to take the lead.

Makayla Miller drove a run across in the fourth for HV, but the Lady Buffaloes were able to add one of their own in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lady Warriors, however, battled back once again.
Maliyah Green recorded a double that scored Trinity Bowers and Natalie Cline, while Grindstaff recorded a sac fly that scored Reece. Green crossed home plate after Miller hit a single to center field as HV tied the game at 1-16 after the top of the fifth.

West Greene added a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 17-16 lead into the final inning.

The Lady Warriors went to work in the top of the seventh.

Grindstaff drew a one-out walk before scoring on a Juley Nieminski triple to even things up at 17-17. Nieminkski scored off a Miller single as HV took an 18-17 lead into the bottom of the frame.

West Greene, however, took advantage of a pair of baserunners as Chloe Reams hit a walk-off double to advance the Lady Buffaloes.

Miller finished the day with five RBI on three hits. Grindstaff tallied four RBI on two hits, while Nieminski had three hits and an RBI.

Reece had three hits and three RBI. Greene tallied two RBI and a hit.
