‘Landers claim Region 1-A crown by rolling past Jellico

Cloudland secured their spot atop the Region 1-A standings on Friday night.

The ‘Landers clinched the Region 1-A crown with a 50-28 victory over Jellico at Orr Field. With the win, Cloudland also secured a No. 1 seed throughout the playoffs.


After a fumble early, the ‘Landers turned things around in a hurry.

Cloudland got on the board in the first quarter when Seth Birchfield scored on a one-yard run to take a 6-0 lead.

In the opening seconds of the second quarter, Hunter Shell hit Bentley Gilbert for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Triston Lacy added the two-point conversion to give CHS a 14-0 lead.

Hunter Blair scored two touchdowns in the second quarter – one from nine yards out and the other on a three-yard run – to push the Cloudland lead to 28-0 at the half.

After the Blue Devils scored early in the third quarter, Lacy raced 65 yards on the ensuing kick to put Cloudland back on the board. Later in the quarter, Lacy caught an 18-yard pass from Shell as CHS stained a 30-point lead going to the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, Gage McKinney had a 25-yard touchdown to account for the final Cloudland score.

Shell finished the game 5-of-10 for 57 yards while he added 50 yards on six carries. Lacy had 78 yards on nine carries, and Birchfield added 55 yards on eight carries. Blair finished with five carries for 51 yards.

The ‘Landers are slated to travel to Mountain City next Friday to take on Johnson County.
