Cloudland hit the gas pedal and never looked back.
The ‘Landers cruised to a 50-6 victory over Hancock County on Friday night in the Region 1-A opener at Orr Field. With the win, Cloudland improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Region play.
CHS jumped out early.
Grayson Cole scored on an 11-yard run and Landon Barnette added the two-point conversion as the ‘Landers took an early 8-0 lead. CHS pushed the advantage to 16-0 as Cole scored on a four-yard run. Bryce Birchfield added the two-point conversion.
In the second quarter, the ‘Landers saw Barnette score on a 10-yard run, while Cam Peppers hit Birchfield for a 33-yard touchdown pass. Brayden Hughes added a two-point conversion to give CHS a 30-0 lead.
The ‘Landers took a 37-0 lead into the half as Cole scored on a 43-yard punt return. Jacob Stinnett added the extra point.
Cloudland continued to have all the momentum in the second half as Cole scored on a 49-yard run, and Peppers found Birchfield for a 17-yard touchdown to cap the CHS scoring in the second half.
Cole finished the game with 14 carries for 135 yards, while Birchfield had 50 yards on two catches. Peppers was 3-for-4 passing for 53 yards.
Stinnett added two extra points.
Cloudland is set to return to action next Friday as Johnson County visits Orr Field.
