Cloudland had smooth sailing on Friday night.

The ‘Landers rolled to a 42-14 road nonconference victory over Sunbright. With the win, Cloudland improves to 3-2 on the year.

In the early going, it was all Cloudland.

After Sunbright fumbled the opening kick, the ‘Landers took advantage as Seth Birchfield capped off a quick drive with a three-yard touchdown run.

Bentley Gilbert added the extra point to give CHS a 7-0 lead.

Birchfield made his presence known defensively on the ensuing drive as he intercepted a Tiger pass. That led to a 29-yard touchdown pass from Chase Shell to Gilbert to give CHS a 13-0 lead after a quarter of play despite an Elijah Blair interception late in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Cloudland pushed the lead to 21-0 at the half as Birchfield scored on a two-yard run, and then Caleb Sluder added the two-point conversion.

The third quarter saw the ‘Landers get the offense rolling again.

Sluder scored on a nine-yard run to open the second-half scoring. Birchfield found the end zone once again later in the quarter as he scored on a short touchdown run to give HV a 34-0 lead after three-quarters of play.

Sunbright was able to get a couple of touchdowns in the final 12 minutes against some younger Cloudland players.

The ‘Landers, however, capped the scoring as Gage McKinney scored on a four-yard touchdown fun.

Birchfield finished with 190 yards on 26 carries, while McKinney finished with 85 yards on 10 carries. Sluder had six carries for 57 yards.

Shell finished the game with 47 yards rushing and 33 yards passing.

As a team, Cloudland had 420 total offensive yards.
