‘Landers drop heartbreaker at Cosby

Cloudland’s upset bid came up short on Saturday night.

The ‘Landers saw Cosby use a late run to take a 65-58 victory over Cloudland in the Region 1-A Quarterfinals.


Cloudland had to battle back after falling behind early.

After trailing 10-5, the ‘Landers powered by Robert Leeper battled to take an 11-10 lead, but Cosby answered to take a 15-14 advantage into the second.

The teams traded points in the second quarter as the game was tied at 29-29 entering the half.

Cloudland retook the lead in the third quarter but was unable to put any distance on the Eagles. The Eagles regained a lead late in the frame, and the teams were knotted at 44-44 going into the fourth.

Cosby opened the final eight minutes quickly by jumping out to a five-point lead. The ‘Landers, however, battled back to retake a 54-53 lead at the midpoint of the quarter.

The teams swapped the lead as Cloudland held a 58-57 lead with 2:23 to play. The home standing Eagles, however, used an 8-0 run over the final two minutes to take the victory.

Preston Benfield led Cloudland with 18 points. Leeper had 16 points, and Brinkley Mull had 10 points.
