Cloudland was unable to keep pace in an out-of-state matchup on Friday night.
The ‘Landers fell 46-14 to Middlesboro (Ky.) in nonconference action on the road.
The Yellow Jackets opened the game with a 65-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage to take a 6-0 lead.
Walker Gouge had a big kickoff return on the ensuing kickoff to set Cloudland up in Middlesboro territory. The ‘Landers moved inside the Middlesboro 5, but the ‘Landers were unable to convert a fourth-and-goal.
The teams traded possessions before Middlesboro got back on the scoreboard to take a 14-0 lead.
Cloudland got on the board as Grayson Cole scored on a short touchdown run after a lengthy CHS drive. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful as CHS cut the deficit to 14-6 with just over three minutes to play in the first half.
Middlesboro added a late touchdown to take a 22-6 lead into the half.
In the second half, Cloudland continued to battle, but was unable to keep pace with Middlesboro in the second half.
Gavyn Shell added a score late on a short run, and Bryce Birchfield and Gouge connected for the two-point conversion.
