Cloudland took care of business late.
The ‘Landers pulled away for a 40-24 victory over Cosby on the road Friday night in Region 1-A action.
With the win, the ‘Landers continue to control their destiny in the region race.
Cloudland opened up the scoring as Gage McKinney scored on a three-yard run with five minutes left in the first quarter.
Cosby, however, answered with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Turner to Hayden Green to even things up at 6-6 after a quarter of play, and the Eagle duo connected early in the second to take a 12-6 lead over Cloudland.
Cosby maintained the 12-6 advantage at the half.
The ‘Landers got things cranking in the second half.
McKinney scored on an eight-yard run to even things up and then broke free for a 59-yard score to give Cloudland an 18-12 lead with four minutes left in the third.
Elijah Holtsclaw came up big for the CHS defense as he intercepted a Cosby pass and returned it for the score.
After the Eagles pulled back within a score, McKinney found the endzone early in the fourth from nine yards out to extend the lead to 34-18.
Holtsclaw scored on a 14-yard run with just over seven minutes to play to secure the win the Cloudland.
McKinney – who surpassed 1,000 yards on the season during the game – had 313 yards on 36 carries.
Holtsclaw had 64 yards on 17 carries.
