The Rangers defended homecourt in a big way Monday night.
Unaka picked up a crucial win over University High in District 1-A action. It was a fierce battle with the Rangers pushing ahead late and then holding on for the win.
Joseph Slagle had 22 points to pace Unaka, while Will Sexton added 17 points. Joe Blamo added 11 points.
Kaleb Meredith tallied 25 points to lead UH.
Hampton 98, Johnson County 92 2 OT (boys)
It was a barn-burner in Mountain City.
Hampton picked up a thrilling two-overtime nonconference win on Monday night.
It was a tight battle throughout the game, and both offenses came alive in the fourth combining for 56 points.
Johnson County held a 3-point lead late in the first extra period, but the Bulldogs saw Morgan Lyons drain a 3-pointer to force the second OT period.
In the second overtime, Hampton outscored the Longhorns 13-7 to take the win.
Lyons and Garrett Vines had 23 points apiece to pace the Bulldogs. Conor Burleson tallied 15 points, while Hayden Campbell and Isaiah McCoury had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Jackson Earnhardt had 33 points to pace Johnson County.
Unaka 67, University High 8 (girls)
The Lady Rangers rolled to a district win on Monday night.
Unaka raced out to a 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 36-3 lead at the break.
Lyndie Ramsey had 22 points to lead the way for the Lady Rangers, while Trinity Houghton had 15 points.
Hampton 58, Johnson County 55 (girls)
The Lady Bulldogs held on for a win on Monday night.
Hampton jumped out to a 16-13 lead after a quarter of play, and then maintained a 3-pointer advantage at the half.
HHS pushed the lead to 10 points entering the final quarter before the Lady Longhorns used a late run to close things up.
Linsey Jenkins had 15 points to pace Hampton. Madi McClain added 12 points.
Sadie Stout led Johnson County with 24 points.
