Monday Round-up: Warriors Come Up Short In Back-And-Forth Battle; Lady Cyclones Roll

West Greene 19, Happy Valley 13
The Warriors came up short in a back-and-forth battle on Monday.

After West Greene held a 5-1 lead after two complete, Happy Valley answered with two runs in the third and four more in the top of the fourth to take a 7-5 lead. WG, however, answered with four of their own in the home side of the fourth and added two more in the fifth.

HV continued to battle with six runs in the sixth to take a 13-11 lead, but the Buffaloes countered with a big inning to take the lead and the win.

Mason Belt went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI, while Ty Johnson, Aiden Hartsook, and Grady Goulds each had three RBI. Drew Blevins went 3-for-3.

Lane Parker finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI.

On the mound, Goulds struck out five batters and allowed just two earned runs on three hits in three innings of work.

Dobyns-Bennett 7, Elizabethton 2
The Cyclones came up short against Dobyns-Bennett on Monday.

EHS jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but DB scored three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take control.

Blaine Tolley had two hits and an RBI for EHS, while Aliester Sumner and Brayden Buckles each added a hit. Stephen Meadows added an RBI.

On the mound, Bryson Rowland struck out six batters and allowed just two hits in three innings of work.

Bethel Christian 12, Cloudland 2
The ‘Landers were unable to answer an eight-run seventh by Bethel Christian on Monday afternoon.

Walker Gouge had two hits for CHS and a run scored in the contest. Brayden Whitaker also added a run scored and drew two walks.

In five innings of work, Cam Peppers allowed just one earned run on two hits with 14 strikeouts.

Johnson County 17, Hampton 16
Hampton fell on the wrong side of a walk-off on Monday night.

The Bulldogs took a 16-15 lead into the final frame, but Johnson County was able to plate two runs to take the lead and win.

Jaden Kuhn went 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Elisha Henson had two hits and three RBI. Cade Nelson recorded two hits and an RBI.

Noah Nichols, Jamie Turybill, and Gabriel Lyons each had a hit.
Cash Royston, Nichols, and Nelson each had an RBI.

Nate Dorman and Grayson Holt had three hits and three RBI to lead Johnson County.

Softball
Elizabethton 17, Johnson County 2
The Lady Cyclones plated nine runs in the first and never looked back on Monday afternoon.

Kaitlyn Gryder had three hits and two RBI to pace EHS, while Adrian Heading went 3-for-3. Sadie Williams had three RBI with two hits, while Piper Bennett tallied two hits and two RBI.

In the pitching circle, Gryder allowed just one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work, while Ezzy Barr struck out six batters in two innings of work.

Science Hill 18, Cloudland 1

The Lady ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with the Science Hill bats in the season opener for CHS.

Ayla Horney hit a solo home run for Cloudland in the fifth inning.
Peyton Preswood, Eowyn McCoury, and Savannah McCoury each had a hit for CHS.

University High 15, Happy Valley 5
The Lady Warriors fell in nonconference play on Monday evening.

Natalie Cline had a hit and two runs scored for Happy Valley. Miley Miller also scored two runs, while Alex Moore recorded a run scored.
Trinity Bowers struck out five batters in the pitching circle.

For UH, Reece Williams recorded nine strikeouts and allowed just one hit and no earned runs. Avery Nelson and Emma Hall went 3-for-4 to lead the UH offense.

Gatlinburg-Pittman 13, Hampton 8
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to rally on Monday afternoon.

Hampton plated three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth but was unable to keep the rally going.

Hampton outhit GP 19-13 in the game.

Briley Davis went 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Malory Lamb went 3-for-3 with a RBI. Hadley Vines added two hits and two RBI. Desiree Walls also recorded four hits and an RBI.

In the pitching circle, Davis struck out eight batters.
