Monday Roundup: Bulldogs fall in close game at Maryville

Maryville 73, Hampton 62 (boys)
The Bulldogs were unable to upset their hosts on Monday.

Hampton stayed toe-to-toe with the homestanding Rebels in the opening game of the Maryville Holiday Classic but was unable to make a late run.

The Bulldogs stayed within striking distance the whole game as they trailed by five at the end of the first quarter and eight at the half.

Morgan Lyons led the way with 30 points, while Garrett Vines and Conor Jones had five points apiece.


Sullivan East 79, Cloudland 56 (boys)
The ‘Landers were unable to overcome a sluggish second quarter.

Cloudland held an 11-9 lead over the Patriots after eight minutes of play, but East stormed back to take a 35-22 lead at the half.

The ‘Landers continued to battle but was unable to trim into the lead in the second half.

Caleb Sluder had 19 points to pace Cloudland, while Bentley Gilbert added 13 points. Dylan Shell scored nine points.

Sullivan East 48, Cloudland 37 (girls)
The Lady ‘Landers came up just short on the road.

Cloudland and the Lady Patriots were tied at the end of the first quarter before East took a slim 21-18 lead into the half.

The Lady ‘Landers stayed within striking distance in the entire second half but was unable to take the win.

Mandy Benfield had 17 points to lead Cloudland, while Gracie Freeman had eight points.

Karah Fields and Jasmine Birchfield had six and five points, respectively.

Tennessee High 44, Happy Valley 28 (girls)
The Lady Warriors saw a first-quarter deficit too much to overcome on Monday.

HV saw the Lady Vikings raced out to a 20-7 lead in the opening minutes.

The Lady Warriors settled down and trimmed the lead going into the half, but was unable to make a major dent in the deficit.

Kadie Bailey had 11 points to lead Happy Valley. Olivia Absher added 10 points
