The Bulldogs picked up a thrilling Friday win.

Hampton scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead and take a 7-5 victory over Avery County (N.C.) at Scotty Bunton Field.

With the win, Hampton improves to 5-0 on the year.

After the Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, Hampton went to work in the home side of the frame.

Collin Morgan evened things up when he scored off a Josh Whitson single. Jonathon Greenwell scored in the next at-bat with a steal of home plate, and Whitson pushed the HHS lead to 3-1 after he scored off a wild pitch.

Avery got a run back in the third, but Chance Point scored on a wild pitch and Morgan Lyons scored off a Caleb Royston grounder in the home side of the frame to take a 5-2 advantage.

The Vikings pulled within a run in the fourth and tied things up in the fifth.

Royston, however, broke the stalemate in the bottom of the sixth as Conor Jones and Whitson touched homeplate to regain the lead for Hampton.

A 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh secured the win for Hampton.

Royston went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Point was 2-for-4.

Whitson picked up the win on the mound as he allowed just one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

Brody Hicks had 3.2 innings of work on the mound as he allowed just three earned runs on four hits.
