Photo Gallery: Lady ‘Landers Come Up Short Against North Greene

Cloudland was unable to overcome a slow start on Thursday.

The Lady ‘Landers fell 9-7 to North Greene in District 1-A action at Hampton on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Huskies scored three runs in the opening frame as Hannah Brooks pushed Matti Phillips across home plate, and Heidi Trentham put the ball in play to score two runs.

A Loren Blevins double in the top of the second gave NG a 4-0 advantage, and the Lady Huskies added three more runs in the third to take a 7-0 lead.

The Lady ‘Landers, however, battled back.

Jayla Harper led off the home side of the third by drawing a walk and Savannah McCoury took advantage of a NG error to reach base. With two outs, Reagan Turbyfill reached base on a Lady Huskies error that allowed Harper to score. Cloudland kept the inning going as Khloe Johnson hit a single that plated a run.

After Peyton Preswood hit a single that loaded the bases, Abriella Jones pushed Turbyfill across the plate as Cloudland cut the gap to 7-3 after three complete innings.

The Lady ‘Landers added a run in the bottom of the fourth as Harper scored on a wild pitch.

Both teams went 1-2-3 in the fifth.

The Lady Huskies extended the lead in the top of the fifth as Brooks hit a single to push Phillips across the plate, while Charlie Turnmire put the ball in play to score Josie Graham.

Cloudland answered once again in the bottom of the inning as Eowyn McCoury hit a single to left field that allowed Harper to score. Regan Blair scored off a Turbyfill single, and Johnson pushed Eowyn McCoury across the plate as Cloudland pulled with 9-7.

The Lady ‘Landers were able to keep NG from adding to the lead in the top of the seventh but was unable to rally in the home side of the frame.

Johnson led Cloudland as she tallied two hits and two RBI, while Turbyfill had two RBI and a hit. Harper finished with two hits and three runs scored.

Jones and E. McCoury had a hit and a RBI apiece.

In the pitching circle, S. McCoury allowed three earned runs on nine hits.

Blevins and Brooks led North Greene with two hits and two RBI apiece. Brooks struck out nine batters and allowed four earned runs on nine hits.
