Photo Gallery: Unaka Moves Past Cloudland Softball

Unaka took the first round of a crucial softball series.

The Lady Rangers captured a 14-7 victory over Cloudland on Tuesday afternoon in District 1-A play.

After Unaka held Cloudland scoreless in the top of the first, the Lady Rangers took a 3-0 lead in the home side of the frame.

The Lady ‘Landers got on the board in the top of the second as Heaven Caraway crossed home plate off a Marlee Hughes double, but Trinity Bowers hit a double that drove Lyndie Ramsey across the plate to counter in the home side of the frame.

The Ramsey run was part of a five-run second inning as Unaka extended the lead to 8-1 after two complete. UHS added two more runs in the third.

Cloudland, however, wasn’t going down without a fight.

Hughes used a single to drive Ryan Turbyfill across home plate which kickstarted a six-run inning for the Lady ‘Landers.

Unaka answered in the bottom of the fifth as Kailey Wilson and Kendall Bare drove in runs, and two more runs in the sixth accounted for the final score.

Sadie Shoun, Alana Parsons, and Noelle Collins had four hits apiece, while Bare finished with three hits and four RBI.

Bowers added two hits and two RBI for the Lady Ranger cause.

Hughes led Cloudland at the plate as she was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kaylen Fields added a RBI with a double for the Lady ‘Landers.

In the pitching circle, Shoun picked up the win as she allowed just three earned runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
