Sevier County 67, Elizabethton 30
The Cyclones were unable to get in sync on Saturday.
Elizabethton saw the Smoky Bears jump out to an early double-digit lead and never recovered in an elimination game.
Sevier County jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter, but Elizabethton battled back to trim the deficit to seven points going to the second quarter.
A quick run in the second quarter, however, pushed the Smoky Bear lead back to 14 points at the half.
Elizabethton continued to battle, but was unable to trim into the lead in the second half.
Nico Ashley had 15 points to lead the way for Elizabethton.
Action Athletics Tournament
Cloudland 68, John Battle 55
The ‘Landers had the hot hand on Saturday as the squad hit 10 3-pointers to set the tone.
After the game was tied at 11-11 at the end of the first quarter, Cloudland outscored Battle 19-8 to get some breathing room in the second quarter.
Battle closed the gap to five points in the third quarter, but the ‘Landers clamped down to secure the win in the final eight minutes.
Conner Birchfield had 19 points to lead CHS, while Hunter Shell added 17 points. Hayden Shell finished with 15 points. Bentley Gilbert and Elijah Blair had nine and eight points, respectively.
Chuckey-Doak 65, Happy Valley 60
The Warriors erased a double-digit lead, but was unable to complete the rally.
HV saw the Black Knights take a double-digit lead in the first four minutes of the game. Happy Valley, however, battled back to get within striking distance until the Black Knights sunk a pair of free throws with 2.5 seconds left to secure the win.
Alex Lunceford had 15 points to pace the Warriors. Andrew Clawson tallied 14 points, while Dylan Willis adding nine.
James Murray and Luke Roberts had seven points apiece.
Carolina Invitational
Happy Valley 41, Orangeburg Prep (S.C.) 20
The Lady Warriors continued to set the tone with defense on the second day of the Carolina Invitational.
HV took a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and held Orangeburg to just two points in the second quarter. From there, it was all Happy Valley.
Shalyn Whitson had 12 points to lead HV, while Gabby Wood had seven points. Casey Campbell and Emily Lunceford had four points apiece.
North Bullitt (Ky.) 52, Hampton 40
The Lady Bulldogs came up short in the semifinals at the Carolina Invitational.
Hampton was unable to punch a ticket in the championship game despite a hard-fought effort.
Hannah Collins led the way with 10 points. Hazen Brumitt and Madi McClain had eight points apiece.
