Saturday Round-up: Hampton Sweeps Chuckey-Doak; Lady Rangers Roll



Hampton 80, Chuckey-Doak 72
The Bulldogs took control early and held on late for the win.

Hampton held a six-point advantage after eight minutes of play before pushing out to a 44-30 lead at the half.

The Bulldogs continued to hold the momentum in the third quarter maintaining the advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Hampton pushed the lead to 18 points in the opening minutes, but the Black Knights chipped away to pull within six points with under two minutes to play.

The Bulldogs, however, took care of business at the free-throw line to secure the win.

Morgan Lyons had 19 points to lead the Bulldogs. Hayden Campbell added 14 points, while Conor Burleson had nine points.

Logan Whitehead and Michael Harrison had eight points apiece.

University High 65, Unaka 60 (OT)
The Rangers were unable to complete a furious rally on Saturday night.

Unaka erased a 10-point deficit after the third quarter to force overtime. The Rangers, however, were unable to finish the rally in the extra period.

Joe-Z Blamo had 27 points to lead Unaka, while Marcus Shoemaker had 15 points.

Caleb Lydick and Ryan Sexton had five points apiece.

Hampton 60, Chuckey-Doak 41
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out early and never looked back.

Hampton racked out to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter and turned up the pressure in the second by outscoring the Lady Black Knights 25-5 in the second stanza.

From there, the Lady Bulldogs hit cruise control for the win.

Madi McClain had 11 points to lead Hampton. Piper Helle and Taylor Berry had nine points apiece, while Linsey Jenkins added six points.

Alyssa Lambert, Macy Henry, and Ryleigh Nickles had five points each.

Unaka 69, University High 29
The Lady Rangers hit the gas and never looked back.

Unaka raced out to a 42-13 lead at the half and was never challenged in the second half.

Lyndie Ramsey had 25 points to lead all scorers. Macy Ensor added 13 points.

Julie Simerly finished with nine points, while Emma Taylor and Kiki Forney had six points apiece.
