Thursday Round-up: Happy Valley, Unaka swept in district finales

Sullivan South 73, Happy Valley 56 (boys)
The Warriors were unable to compete an upset on Thursday night.

Happy Valley had an upset on the mind as they stayed step-by-step with the Three Rivers leading Rebels in the first half as they trailed by 2 at the end of the first and five at the half. The third quarter, however, proved to be too much to overcome as South outscored HV 19-4 in the frame.

Blake Young and Alex Lunceford had 12 points apiece to lead HV. James Harmon and Dylan Willis added eight points apiece.


North Greene 74, Unaka 44 (boys)
Unaka was unable to answer a fourth-quarter Huskie run.

The Rangers held a slim 12-11 lead after a quarter of play before the teams traded shots throughout the second quarter. NG held a 26-24 advantage at the half.

After the Huskies pushed the lead to six points, North Greene ended the game on a 32-8 run to secure the win.

Will Sexton led Unaka with 13 points, while Ryan Johnson had nine points.

Sullivan South 49, Happy Valley 33
The Lady Warriors were unable to answer a late Lady Rebel burst on Thursday night.

After South jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first quarter, HV battled back to trim three points off the margin before the half.

The Lady Rebels, however, pushed the advantage to 10 points in the third quarter and then limited the Lady Warriors to just four points in the final quarter.

Shalyn Whitson had 12 points to lead the way for Happy valley. Jaiden Clark finished with eight points, while Olivia Absher had five points.

North Greene 59, Unaka 39 (girls)
The Lady Rangers were unable to rally from a slow start against the Lady Huskies.

NG jumped out to a 16-8 lead and pushed the advantage to 27-13 at the break. Unaka continued to battle but was unable to make up any ground against the Lady Huskies in the second half.

Lyndie Ramsey had 17 points to lead Unaka.
