Thursday Round-up: Lady Rangers take win over Cloudland

Unaka 12, Cloudland 0 (softball)
The Lady Rangers picked up a key win to remain undefeated in district play on Thursday afternoon.

In the first inning, Katlyn Weaver and Madison Pierce crossed home plate to give UHS an early 2-0 lead. Cloudland saw Jasmine Birchfield and Leah Birchfield get on base in the second, but they were unable to plate the runs.

The third inning saw the Lady Rangers take control as Unaka exploded for seven runs in the frame. In the fifth, UHS added three more runs for the final tally.

Madison Ensor and Pierce led the way for Unaka with three hits apiece, while Sarah Tipton, Erica Potter and Taylor Shanks had two hits apiece.

Cloudland saw Heaven Caraway, L. Birchfield and Kaylen Fields record a hit apiece.

In the pitching circle, Corie Scheuttler picked up the win as she recorded 13 strikeouts for the win and allowed just three hits.


Elizabethton 10, Sullivan South 1 (softball)
The Lady Cyclones scored six runs in the second and never looked back on Thursday.

Lauren Brickey pitched a gem as she allowed just one earned run on seven hits with 12 strikeouts. Offensively, Brickey went 3-for-4. Macie Herrmann also had three hits, while Kira Dillard had two hits.

Maci West, Hannah Edwards, Bailey Creasey, Kellie Cunningham and Maggie Johnson had a hit apiece for EHS.

Sullivan Central 7, Happy Valley 0 (baseball)
The Warriors were unable to recover from an early deficit on the road Thursday night as the Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings.

Will Hampton was 2-for-4 to lead the Warriors at the plate, while Eli Fleenor, Jacob Absher and Caden Ward each added a hit.

Bryce Carter was handed the loss despite allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Providence 6, Hampton 2 (baseball)
The Bulldogs were limited offensively in a nonconference loss.
Hampton saw Gavin Hardin and Caleb Oaks recorded two hits apiece in the loss.
