Thursday Roundup: Cyclones, Bulldogs Win Thrillers

Elizabethton 3, Dobyns-Bennett 1

JD Hooks hit a double in the sixth inning that scored Jack Blevins and Marshal Holtsclaw to lift EHS to a thrilling win over Dobyns-Bennett.

Hooks finished with two hits and two RBI for the Cyclones. Elijah Ambrose added a hit and an RBI.

Justin Whitehead, Carter Reece, Blevins, and Holtsclaw each had a hit.

In five innings of work, Whitehead allowed just one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts on the mound.

Hampton 5, Johnson County 4
The Bulldogs held off the Longhorns for a tight win at home on Thursday.

Cade Nelson led the way as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Hampton. Eland Henson was 2-for-3, while Eli Henson added an RBI. Kasey Gilbert, Jayden Kuhn, and Cash Royston each had a hit.

Eli Henson picked up the win on the mound as he allowed just three earned runs on eight hits through five innings.

Gavin Mahala and Brock Jones led Johnson County as both had two hits and an RBI.

Sullivan East 12, Unaka 1
The Rangers were unable to shake off a slow start on the road Thursday.

Rylan Crabtree went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Unaka offense. Conner Vines had a run scored for the Rangers.

Cloudland 15, University High 3
The Lady ‘Landers rolled to a district win on Thursday evening.

Savannah McCoury and Willow Bennett had three hits and three RBI apiece, while Zoe Gardner had three hits and two RBI. Reagan Turbyfill added two hits and two RBI.

Peyton Preswood had a hit and an RBI, and Jayla Harper and Regan Blair each added a hit.

In the pitching circle, Turbyfill allowed just one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts.

Science Hill 11, Elizabethton 9
Elizabethton came up on the wrong side of a thriller on Thursday.

Emilee Whitson went 3-for-4 with an RBI for EHS. Brook Sparks had two RBI and went 1-for-1, while Sadie Williams had two hits and two runs scored. Lacey Gobble, Piper Bennett, Kaitlyn Gryder, and Lyla Hardin each added a hit and an RBI. Gracie Shepard added a hit.

Gobble allowed three earned runs on six hits in 5.2 innings of work in the pitching circle.

Avery County (N.C.) 22, Hampton 20
The Lady Bulldogs lost a thriller on Thursday.

Hadley Vines had four hits and four RBI, while Kiera McKinney and Emma Birchfield had two hits and two RBI apiece. Hannah Smith finished with three hits, including a double and a triple.

Nalei Deloach and Lillian Andrews recorded two hits and two RBI, respectively. Lauren Smith and Mallory Lamb had a hit and an RBI apiece.

North Greene 13, Unaka 1
The Lady Rangers were unable to battle back from an early deficit on Thursday.

Kacie Bare had a homerun for Unaka. Katlyn Dugger and Mikena Blackwell each had a hit.

The Lady Warriors came up short on the road Thursday.

Alex Moore had a hit and a run scored for HV. Destanee Irick, Trinity Bowers, and Tierra Collins each added a hit for the Lady Warriors.

Elizabethton 2, University High 0
The Cyclones picked up a home win Thursday evening. Reece Vernon scored a goal in the eighth minute and added another in the 78th to lift EHS to the win.

Tucker Taylor had seven saves.
