Tuelle lifts Hampton past CD; Bulldog rally falls short

Hampton ended the regular season with a mixed bag.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 51-49 victory over non-conference foe Chuckey-Doka on Monday evening. In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs rallied back but fell 64-57 to the Black Knights.


The girls’ game saw Hampton extend an early lead to 21-12 late in the second quarter, but the Lady Black Knights closed back to within one at the half.

After the Lady Bulldogs took a 35-31 lead into the fourth, HHS extended the advantage to eight points in the opening minutes of the final quarter.

Chcukey-Doak, however, answered and tied the game with just under a minute to play. Hampton’s Shy Tuelle answered on the other end with a buzzer beater shot to power Hampton to the win.

Alexus Grubbs had 22 points to lead Hampton, while Kinzey Hill and Megan Garland added 10 points apiece.

For the Hampton boys, they were unable to completely erase a 12-point deficit, but came close.

The Bulldogs stayed within striking distance in the first half as they trailed 27-17 at the half.

Chuckey-Doak, however, came out of the locker firing as they pushed the lead to 12 points in the third quarter, and led 48-39 at the end of the third.

Hampton saw the Black Knights extend the lead back to 12 points, but the Bulldogs answered with a 1-0 run to close within two points in the closing minutes. That was as close as Hampton could get however before time expired.

Wyatt Lyons had 19 points to pace Hampton. Dru Owens and Charlie Butler had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
