Tuesday Round-up: Elizabethton Sweeps East; Rangers Pull Away In Fourth

Elizabethton 66, Sullivan East 50
The Lady Cyclones jumped out early and never looked back.

Elizabethton opened the game on a 23-8 run and rolled to the win over the Lady Patriots.

Jamira Smalls led the way with 16 points. Regan May and Rylee May added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Hampton 50, South Greene 41
The Lady Bulldogs picked up a key district win on the road Tuesday night.

After South Greene took a slim 14-13 lead into the second quarter, Hampton answered and took a 27-21 advantage into the half.

The game continued to be a back-and-forth battle in the second half, and the Lady Bulldogs were able to hold off the Lady Rebels for the win in the closing minutes.

Faye Carrico tallied 17 points to lead the way for Hampton. Ella Estep added 10 points.

Cosby 48, Unaka 27
The Lady Rangers were unable to keep pace with Cosby on Tuesday evening.

Unaka jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the first quarter, but the Lady Eagles outscored UHS 12-2 in the second to take a 21-14 advantage.

The Lady Rangers continued to battle in the second half, but was unable to make a run into the Cosby lead.

Michelle Shields led Unaka with nine points, while Lauren Lund had seven points. Emma Douglas scored five points.

Unaka 73, Cosby 55
A big fourth quarter propelled Unaka to a win on the road Tuesday night.

After the teams were tied at 19-19 after a quarter of play, the Rangers were able to use a balanced attack to take a 38-31 lead at the half. Cosby was able to trim into the lead in the third as UHS held a 49-44 advantage.

The fourth quarter, however, was all Unaka as the Rangers scored 24 points in the frame – outscoring the homestanding Eagles 24-11 – to take the win.

John Hardin led the way with 21 points, while Aiden Walsh added 20 points. Mason Wilson and Jackson Deyton had eight and six points, respectively.

South Greene 55, Hampton 47
The Bulldogs came up short on the road on Tuesday night in district action.

South Greene jumped out to an 18-14 lead after eight minutes of play and pushed the advantage to 34-24 at the half. Hampton kept battling and trimmed a double-digit deficit to get within striking distance in the fourth, but was unable to rally past the Rebels.

Chase Davenport had 14 points to lead the Bulldogs. Jayden Nave had 12 points.

Elizabethton 73, Sullivan East 68
The Cyclones were able to hold East to take a district win on Tuesday night.

It was a back-and-forth battle as the Patriots took an 18-17 lead after a quarter of play, and the Cyclones were able to take a slim 31-30 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, EHS outscored Sullivan East 24-12 to take control. The Patriots battled back to get within striking distance, but Elizabethton was able to hold on for the win.

Hudson Pate led the way with 16 points, while Justin Whitehead added 14 points. Zach Wallin and Hudson Smith had 10 points apiece. Andrew Barnett added nine points.
