Tuesday Round-up: Lady Cyclones take win, HV sweeps

Elizabethton 52, Cherokee 50 (Girls)
Kaylen Shell scored 15 points while McKendra Norris added 11 points to power the Lady Cyclones to a Hall of Champions win over Cherokee.

Elizabethton led 27-20 at the half, but the Lady Chiefs closed the gap late in the third quarter and early fourth. Norris, however, hit a big pair of shots in the final minutes to help EHS start the season 1-0.

Torrie Roberts added eight points to the EHS cause, while Abbey Townsend, Cheyenne VanHuss and Cassey Fowler had five points apiece. Morgan Headrick added three points to the EHS cause.

Harper Russell had 23 points, 16 of which came in the fourth quarter, to lead Cherokee.


Sullivan Central 53, Unaka 41 (girls)
The Lady Rangers were unable to overcome an early deficit in their season opener.

Sullivan Central jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter and extended the margin to 33-17 at the half. Unaka continued to battle, but was unable to rally past Central.

Jada Whitehead and Myah Parlier had 12 points apiece. Savannah Tipton and Madison Ensor each had six points.

Happy Valley 76, West Greene 22 (Girls)
The Lady Warriors kicked off the Thomas Gouge era in style on Tuesday night.

HV jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the first quarter, and then erupted for 33 points in the second. That gave the Lady Warriors a 51-12 lead. From there, it was all HV.

Olivia Absher had 17 points to lead the way, while Shay Whitson added 16 points. Adrienne Henegar had 11 points.

Happy Valley 53, West Greene 43 (Boys)
The Jeremy Maddox era started off on a winning note for the Happy Valley boys’ basketball team.

After trailing 11-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Warriors turned it on in the second outscoring the Buffaloes 21-5 in the second. From there, HV kept WG at bay.

Bryce Carter had 13 points to lead the way for HV, while Noah Stevens added 12 points. James Harmon added 11 points.
