Tuesday Round-up: Lady Rangers Outlast Cloudland; Lady Cyclones Win OT Thriller

Unaka 60, Cloudland 54 (girls)
The Lady Rangers held off Cloudland for a key District 1-A win on Tuesday night.

After the first quarter saw the teams go back-and-forth, Unaka took a 38-30 lead into the half. The Rangers maintained a 50-42 lead after three complete quarters.

Cloudland, however, battled back in the fourth as they pulled within a possession of Unaka in the closing minutes before the Lady Rangers were able to secure the win.

Michelle Shields led Unaka with 22 points. Brooklyn Campbell added 10 points.

Makinna Shell led Cloudland with 18 points.

Elizabethton 87, Tennessee High 81 OT (girls)
The Lady Cyclones won a thriller.

It was a back-and-forth battle throughout regulation. EHS led 39-33 at the half and maintained a 57-51 lead after three complete quarters. Tennessee High went on a run to take the lead, but the Cyclones answered to force overtime.

EHS was able to secure the win in overtime.

Rylee May led Elizabethton with 26 points, while Addison Bunn had 24 points. Jamira Smalls added 23 points.

Addie Wilhoit had 37 points for Tennessee High.

West Greene 52, Happy Valley 23
The Lady Warriors were unable to match a quick West Greene start on Tuesday.

Kymber Pruitt led HV with nine points.

West Greene’s Payton Norton had a game-high 15 points.

Unaka 65, Cloudland 29 (boys)
The Rangers jumped out early to take a county District 1-A victory.

Unaka took a 15-4 lead after a quarter of play and slowly added to the lead in the second quarter despite a hard-fought effort by the ‘Landers.

John Hardin scored 23 points to lead Unaka. Justius Wallin and Austin Lambert had eight and seven points, respectively.

Gavyn Shell led Cloudland with nine points. Bryce Birchfield finished with eight points.

Hampton 65, University High 50 (boys)
The Bulldogs overcame a slow start and pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a road District 1-A win.

After UH held a 17-8 lead after a quarter of play, the Bulldogs trimmed the gap to 25-24 at the half. Hampton outscored the Bucs 18-13 in the third to take the lead, and then secured the win by outscoring UH 23-12 in the final eight minutes.

Colby Clark had 23 points to lead the way, while Tuff Robinson had 18 points. Chase Davenport scored 12 points.

Tennessee High 76, Elizabethton 63 (boys)
The Cyclones were unable to overcome a big third quarter by the Vikings on Tuesday.

After Tennessee High held a 31-30 lead at the half, the Vikings outscored EHS 22-11 in the third to take a 53-41 advantage into the fourth. EHS closed the gap to four points with a quick run late in the fourth, but was unable to get back in front.

Nathan Bailey led Elizabethton with 22 points. Evan Chambers scored 18 points, while Hudson Pate added 14 points.

West Greene 70, Happy Valley 63
The Warriors came up short on Tuesday night in district action.

Grady Goulds scored 23 points to lead HV. Lane Parker added 13 points for the Warriors.

Ayden Lamons led West Greene with 23 points.
