Tuesday Round-up: Unaka sweeps North; Bulldogs fall to NG

Unaka 64, Sullivan North 49 (Boys)
Ryan Johnson scored 28 points as the Rangers picked up a key District 1-A victory on Tuesday night.

Unaka jumped out to a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a five-point advantage at the half. After the teams played even through the third quarter, Johnson and company pulled away from North to leave no doubt.

John Ramsey added 18 points to the Ranger cause.

Unaka 50, Sullivan North 35 (Girls)
The Lady Rangers pulled away in the third quarter and rolled to a District 1-A road victory.

After North held a 10-9 lead after a quarter of play, Unaka jumped in front to take a 22-19 advantage into the half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Rangers outscored SN 22-6 to take control of the game.

Myah Parlier led the way with 24 points to lead the way. Madison Pierce and Tara Whitehead had six points each.

North Greene 40, Hampton 37 (boys)
Turner Bailey hit a last-second shot to lift North Greene to the victory over Hampton in District 1-A action.

It was a defensive battle from the opening tip. Hampton held a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a 24-22 advantage at the half as the teams played even in the second quarter.

In the second half, points were hard to come by. Matt Hughes and Morgan Lyons each hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter, but the Huskies took the lead after outscoring HHS 10-7 in the frame.

The final quarter was much the same as Hampton was limited to just six points while holding NG to eight points – none bigger then Bailey’s shot.

Caleb Oaks, Jordan Bentley and Rocky Croy had seven points apiece.
