The Cyclones dropped a heartbreaker on Tuesday night.
EHS led 23-22 after a quarter of play and maintained a 27-25 lead at the half. After East took a 38-36 lead into the the fourth, the teams continued to trade shots and forced an extra period.
The Hurricanes hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the extra period, and Elizabethton saw a game-tying bucket rim out at the buzzer.
Hudson Pate led Elizabethton with 24 points. Andrew Barnett added 15 points, while Jackson Buckles and Evan Chambers each added eight points.
Unaka 57, Twin Springs (Va.) 52
The Rangers battled back to secure a win in the fourth quarter Tuesday night.
The teams played nearly even in the opening half as Unaka led 17-14 after a quarter of play before the Titans took a 32-27 lead into the half.
The back-and-forth game continued as the game entered the fourth tier at 46 apiece.
Unaka outscored Twin Springs 11-6 in the final eight minutes – including four points from Aiden Walsh and a key 3-pointer from Rylan Crabtree – to take the win.
John Hardin had 26 points to lead the way, while Walsh had 11 points. Mason Wilson scored 10 points. Crabtree added eight points.
Girls
Unaka 41, Twin Springs (Va.) 35
The Lady Rangers picked up a nonconference win on Tuesday night.
Unaka jumped out early as four Lady Rangers scored to give UHS a 10-3 lead. Points were hard to come by in the second for both squads, but Unaka held a 14-9 advantage at the half.
Michelle Shields scored 10 points in the third quarter to help UHS extend the lead, and Unaka was able to keep Twin Springs at bay for the win.
Shields finished with 17 points, while Kalli Shepard had eight points. Brooklyn Campbell scored six points.
