It is twice as nice for the Hampton girls’ basketball team.
The Lady Bulldogs claimed its second straight District 1-2A Championship with a 59-55 win over Chuckey-Doak on Monday night at Unicoi County High School.
Hampton will open Region 1-A play as they host a quarterfinal matchup against Oneida on Friday night.
On Monday night, the Lady Bulldogs opened the game on a 9-1 run before CD was able to get things going. Hampton led 17-13 after a quarter of play.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle as CD took the lead late in the quarter, but Hampton answered to take a 31-30 lead into the half.
After Chuckey-Doak was able to take momentum and the lead, Hampton answered with an 8-0 run to close out the third quarter and take a 48-43 lead into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, the Lady Bulldogs were able to withstand Chuckey-Doak runs in the final minutes to secure the win.
Hannah Smith and Brea Hicks led Hampton with 13 points apiece. Piper Helle scored 12 points. Ella Eastep finished with 11 points.
Tralyn Southerland finished with 11 points to lead Chuckey-Doak.
