Unaka Sees Season Come To A Close In District 1-A Tournament

-

Unaka was unable to extend the season by overcoming a quick North Greene start on Saturday.

The Rangers dropped a 14-1 decision to the Huskies in a District 1-A tournament elimination game at Sullivan East on Saturday afternoon. The loss brings Unaka’s season to a close a game short of the Region 1-A tournament.

The Rangers had defeated Cloudland 18-8 earlier in the day to advance to take on North Greene.

North Greene jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and pushed the lead to 9-0 after two complete innings.

Unaka saw Cooper Shanks reach base by a walk in the top of the third, but the Rangers were unable to move the run. The Huskies added two more runs in the home side of the third.

The Rangers, however, didn’t stop battling.

Logan Lewis opened the fourth inning with a double for the Rangers, while Robert Humphrey singled. The Rangers got on the board as Rylan Crabtree hit a double that plated a run. Unaka was unable to keep the inning going while the Huskies secured the win in the bottom of the fourth.

Crabtree had a hit and a RBI. Humphrey, Lewis, and Nidiffer each had a hit.
