Unaka tabs Bennett as new football coach

The Unaka football program has a new leader.

O’Brien Bennett has been named the new head coach of the Ranger football program. The hire was confirmed by Unaka Athletic Director Aaron Dugger on Friday morning.

Bennett comes to Stoney Creek from the Knoxville area where he has served as an assistant coach at Knox Halls.

Prior to his stop at Halls, Bennett was an assistant at Carter High School.

He is originally from Kingsport and is a Dobyns-Bennett graduate.

He takes over for Pink McKinney, who resigned after the 2016 season. The Rangers went 1-10 last season – including a playoff forfeit against Greenback.

Bennett has a tall task as his new squad is facing a two-year postseason ban as a result of the playoff forfeit.
