Unaka takes two on Warrior Hill

Unaka picked up a pair of big nonconference wins on Tuesday night on Warrior Hill.

The Rangers and Lady Rangers completed the sweep as the UHS boys took a 48-36 victory over Happy Valley, while the UHS girls held on for a 52-45 victory over the Lady Warriors.


In the boys’ game, Happy Valley held the upper hand in the first quarter with a 9-4 lead. Unaka, however, turned the tides in the second outscoring the host 18-6 in the period.

The Rangers defense continued to limit HV to just four points in the third quarter to take a 33-21 lead into the fourth quarter.

Ryan Johnson and John Ramsey had 16 and 13 points, respectively to lead Unaka. Bryce Carter had 20 points for the Warriors.

It was a tale of two quarters in the first half of the girls game.

The Lady Rangers jumped out to a 17-3 lead over the hosts in the first quarter, but the Lady Warriors responded by doubling Unaka in the second to close the gap to 27-23 entering the half

The teams played an even battle across the final 16 minutes as Unaka maintained the edge to take the win.

Myah Parlier had 22 points to lead Unaka, while Savannah Tipton had 16 points.

Adrienne Henegar had 16 points to pace Happy Valley, and Tiana Long tossed in 12 points. Shalyn Whitson added 10 points.
