In a Region 1-A clash, Cloudland took care of business on Friday night.

The ‘Landers picked up a 66-14 victory over Unaka on Stoney Creek. Cloudland moved to 2-0 in region play, while Unaka fell to 0-3 against region foes.

Jordan Coffey opened the scoring for the ‘Landers as he ran in from 31 yards out. The Rangers were unable to get anything going on the next drive as they were forced to punt. Cloudland struck quickly as Malachi Benfield hit Jacob Singleton for a 14-yard touchdown pass.

On the ensuing drive, Garrett Stilner jumped on a loose ball after a muffed punt to set Unaka up in Cloudland territory. The Cloudland defense, however, held strong to force the Rangers off the field.

Unaka’s defense repaid the favor on the following drive to stop CHS on fourth down. The ‘Landers got back on the board later in the quarter as Josh Blair scored on a nine-yard run to give CHS an 18-0 lead. Hayden Houston scored on a five-yard scamper as CHS pushed the lead to 25-0.

Unaka wasn’t going to go quietly as John Ramsey found Devon Jarrett for a 49-yard touchdown as time expired in the first quarter to cut the CHS lead to 25-5.

The ‘Landers Benfield hit Dillon Johnson for an 18-yard touchdown in the opening minute of the second quarter, and Coffey extended the lead to 32 after an 11-yard touchdown run.

Cloudland capped the scoring in the first half with a 30-yard pass from Benfield to Triston Lacy as the ‘Landers maintained a 46-6 advantage going to the locker room.

After Cloudland opened the third quarter with an eight-yard touchdown from Coffey, Ramsey found Blake Isaacs for a 78-yard touchdown run. Jarrett caught Ramsey’s pass for the two-point conversion.

Cloudland added a pair of touchdowns from Connor Birchfield to cap the scoring.

Coffey finished with 12 carries for 180 yards, while Birchfield had 68 yards. Benfield finished the game 9-of-16 for 131 yards.

Ramsey had 148 yards passing for the Rangers.

Cloudland is set to travel to Hampton next Friday, while Unaka will hit the road to Unicoi County.
