It’s a Carter County finale for the District 1-A Softball Championship.

Unaka rolled to a 16-3 victory over North Greene in the winner’s bracket finale, while Cloudland stormed past North Greene for an 11-1 win in the loser’s bracket finale.

The Lady Rangers and Lady ‘Landers are slated to square off on Thursday for the district title. CHS must win twice to capture the crown.

With the wins, both teams also captured berths in the Region 1-A tournament – what is believed to be a first for the Cloudland program.

Unaka started the afternoon with an exclamation point.

The Lady Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and maintained a 4-1 advantage after three. After North Greene trimmed the lead to one run, Unaka erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure the win.

Alana Parsons had three hits to lead the way for Unaka, while Tayla Potter, Taylor Shanks, Lilie Kiser and Erika Potter had two hits each.

Sadie Shoun had a strong showing in the circle as she allowed just three earned runs on six hits.

In the nightcap, Cloudland finally solved the North Greene puzzle.

The Lady ‘Landers scored seven runs in the second inning and never looked back to extend their season.

Heaven Caraway, Gracie Cook and Jasmine Birchfield had two hits apiece. Caraway and Birchfield each had three RBIs.

In the circle, Kenzie Birchfield had another strong game as she allowed just one run on five hits.
