Cyclones Dominate Grainger For Region Win

Elizabethton took care of business on both sides of the ball on Friday night.

The Cyclones steamrolled to a 57-6 win over Grainger in the region opener at Citizens Bank Stadium. With the win, Elizabethton improves to 1-1 on the year and 1-0 in region play.

The Cyclones struck early.

The defense saw Justius Wallen step in front of a Grainger pass and take it 27 yards for a pick-six tor the touchdown. An interception by Bryson Rowland set up a short field and a Rhett Slagle six-yard touchdown run as EHS took a 14-0 lead.

Elizabethton took a 21-0 advantage into the second quarter as Zach Wallin caught a 41-yard pass from Slagle for a touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Cyclone defense nabbed another interception as Justin Whitehead scored on a 42-yard pick-six.

Jiaden Wallen scored on a one-yard scoring play later in the quarter on a drive that was set up by a Zach Wallin interception.

The Elizabethton defense continued to stymie the Grizz as Riley Jones recorded a sack in the endzone for a safety.

Elizabethton took a 44-0 lead at the half when Slagle hit Jack Blevins for a 15-yard touchdown.

In the second half, Whitehead caught a 30-yard touchdown pass while CJ Mathes scored on a five-yard run to account for the Elizabethton scoring.

Slagle was 8-of-11 passing for 138 yards and three touchdowns and added four carries for 30 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Jaiden Wallen had 43 yards on four carries, while Ju. Wallin had three carries for 39 yards.
