Cloudland proved to have the upper hand on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady ‘Landers rolled to a 14-0 victory over Hampton in the opening round of the District 1-A Softball Tournament at Unaka. With the win, Cloudland advances to take on No. 2 seed North Greene on Monday, while the Lady Bulldogs saw their season come to a close.

For the Lady ‘Landers, Kenzie Birchfield was nearly perfect as only one Lady Bulldog reached base – and that was via an error.

In the first inning, Cloudland took a 4-0 lead in the home side of the frame – including a Kaylen Fields double that plated two runs – and quickly extended it in the second to 12-0.

The second inning included a Leah Birchfield inside-the-park homer that tallied three runs to help power the inning. CHS added two more runs in the third to account for the final margin.

K. Birchfield struck out seven batters in the pitching circle, while also going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Krisi Bare was a perfect 3-for-3, while Rein Strickland and Cook had two hits apiece.
