In a classic battle, Unaka took the first round.

The Lady Rangers played three runs in the eighth to take a thrilling 7-5 extra-inning victory over Cloudland in Roan Mountain on Tuesday afternoon.

After the first three innings went scoreless, the bats came alive in the fourth.

The Lady Rangers saw Lyndie Ramsey touch home plate off a passed ball, and Kendall Bare reached base to score Sadie Shoun to put Unaka up 2-0. Jill Faust knocked in Hailey Taylor as the Lady Rangers took a 3-0 advantage into the home side of the inning.

Cloudland, however, answered quickly.

After Taylor Hicks hit a single to open the inning, Kendall Birchfield hit a home run over the centerfield fence to plate two runs to trim the gap in the home side of the fourth.

Cloudland got back on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Bethany Sluder hit a home run to even things up at 3-3.

Karah Fields pushed the Lady ‘Landers ahead after she scored off a Unaka throwing error, and CHS held a 4-3 advantage after five complete innings.

Parsons evened the game at 4-4 with a solo homerun in the sixth.

Neither team was able to plate a run in the seventh as the game went to extra innings.

Ramsey opened the top of the eighth with a single, and then scored after Sadie Shoun hit a hard shot to the outfield. Unaka added runs from Parsons and Shoun to take a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the extra frame.

Birchfield got Cloudland back on the board with her second homerun of the day, but the Lady ‘Landers were unable to rally.

Ramsey and Shoun each recorded two hits apiece to pace Unaka. Sluder and Birchfield each had two hits apiece for Cloudland.

In the pitching circle, Shoun picked up the win as she struck out 12 Cloudland batters.
