Softball Round-up: Lady ‘Landers upend UH for key win; Unaka EHS also take wins

Cloudland 7, University High 4 – 8 innings (softball)
The Lady ‘Landers picked up a statement win on Tuesday over the Lady Bucs as Rein Strickland hit a three-run homerun in the eighth-inning.

Cloudland held a late 4-2 advantage after an Emma Roberts homerun, but UH rallied in the home side of the seventh to force extra innings.

In the pitching circle, Kenzie Birchfield picked up the win as she allowed just four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Gracie Cook was 3-for-4 for CHS, while Leah Birchfield, K. Birchfield, Krissi Bare, Strickland and Roberts all recorded a hit for Cloudland.


Unaka 5, North Greene 3 (softball)
The Lady Rangers plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth and held on for a key District 1-A win.

Madison Pierce was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the way for Unaka, while Katlyn Weaver was 2-for-4. Sarah Tipton, Erika Potter, Madison Ensor, Tayla Potter and Sidney Markland all had a hit for the Lady Rangers.

In the pitching circle, Corie Scheuttler recorded 12 strikeouts en route to the win. The complete game effort saw Scheuttler allow three unearned runs on three hits.

Elizabethton 6, Hamilton Township 5 – 8 innings (softball)
Kira Dillard hit a single in the top of the eighth that scored Macie Herrmann to give the Lady Cyclones a thrilling extra-inning victory on Tuesday in the Grand Strand Classic.

Herrman was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Maci West, Haley Fair and Marley Wagner recorded two hits apiece.

In the pitching circle, Kellie Cunningham picked up the win as she allowed just three earned runs and recorded five strikeouts.
