Tuesday Round-up: Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs Fall In Heartbreakers; Lady Rangers, Lady ‘Landers Nab Wins

Boys
North Greene 72, Hampton 68 OT
The Bulldogs dropped a heartbreaker in OT in Baileyton.

Hampton came up short in an overtime decision in a hard-fought battle.

The teams traded shots throughout the first half as NG held a 16-15 lead after a quarter of play. Hampton used an 11-2 second-quarter run to take a 35-31 lead into the locker room at the half.

Hampton pushed the lead to nine points early in the third, but NG slowly chipped away to pull within three points after three complete quarters.

The teams traded shots for most of the final quarter including a 3-pointer from North Greene’s Jason Britton to force overtime.

The Huskies opened the overtime with a quick 4-0 run, but Hampton responded with a Conor Burleson bucket. North Greene, however, secured the win at the free throw line.

Cadon Buckles led Hampton with 19 points, while Burleson ended the night with 18 points. Morgan Lyons tossed in 10 points.

Britton led North Greene with a school-record 43 points.

South Greene 71, Unaka 65 OT
The Rangers came up short in overtime on Tuesday night.

In a back-and-forth battle, neither team was able to get much separation from the other in the first half as SG led 19-14 after a quarter of play, and Unaka led 33-31 at the break.

The Rangers were able to extend the lead out in the third quarter. South Greene, however, rallied to force overtime.

Joseph Slagle had 24 points. Joe-Z Blamo scored 23 points, while Landon Ramsey tossed in 10 points.

University High 61, Cloudland 40
Cloudland was unable to keep pace with the Bucs on the road.

Points were hard to come by in the opening minutes as UH held an 8-5 lead after a quarter of play. The ‘Landers continued to battle with a spark from Caleb Sluder, but the Bucs held a 21-11 advantage at the half.

In the second half, Cloudland continued to battle but was unable to rally.

Sluder had 12 points to lead the ‘Landers, while Dylan Shell had 10 points. Gage McKinney and Caden Clarke had five and four points, respectively.

Girls
Unaka 74, South Greene 66
The Lady Rangers picked up a statement nonconference win on Tuesday night.

Unaka held a slim 17-13 lead after a quarter of play and maintained a 37-28 advantage at the half.

The Lady Rangers built up a double-digit lead in the third quarter and kept SG at bay to preserve the win.

Lyndie Ramsey had 27 points, while Macy Ensor added 19 points. Kiki Forney and Mailey Guy had 14 and eight points, respectively.

Emma Cutshall led South Greene with 19 points.

Cloudland 61, University High 14
The Lady ‘Landers rolled to a district road win on Tuesday night.
Cloudland jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the opening quarter and took full control by outscoring UH 20-2 in the second quarter.

From there, the Lady ‘Landers continued to limit the Lady Bucs to secure the win.

Ella Benfield had 12 points to lead Cloudland, while Isabella Christman and Kendall Birchfield had 11 points apiece. Karah Fields scored nine points for the Lady ‘Landers.

North Greene 52, Hampton 50
The Lady Bulldogs saw a hard-fought battle come up heartbreakingly short.

North Greene’s Shelby Davenport hit a near buzzer-beater to propel the Lady Huskies to the win over Hampton.

After North Greene took a 17-8 lead, Hampton battled back with a run of their own to pull with 25-24 at the half.

From there, the teams traded shots and the lead for much of the second half.

The game was tied at 35-35 going to the fourth.

After Hampton’s Madi McClain hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to give Hampton a 50-49 lead, North Greene added a free throw to tie things up.

The Lady Bulldogs were unable to get on the board on their next possession, and Davenport hit the game-winner with 0.4 seconds remaining.

Linsey Jenkins had a game-high 18 points. McClain scored 15 points, while Taylor Berry added 13 points.

Hailee English led North Greene with 12 points.
